Professional Development

We value professional development as part of the growth for our school and for ourselves as pedagogues. We spend plenty of time reflecting on the child’s experiences and our practice.

About Our Professional Development

“Learning and teaching should not stand on opposite banks and just watch the river flow by; instead, they should embark together on a journey down the water. Through an active, reciprocal exchange, teaching can strengthen learning and how to learn.”

Loris Malaguzzi

We value professional development as part of the growth for our school and for ourselves as pedagogues. We spend plenty of time reflecting on the child’s experiences and our practice.

As a school we highly value and are committed to our teachers personal and professional development.

We invest in a variety of professional development opportunities and educational training over the course of the school year and have in the past sent teachers all over the world to participate in one of the larger conferences such as Play Iceland in Reykjavik, Seattle, Colorado, Boston and Reggio Emilia in Italy.

We always look forward to sharing our reflections, inspirations and new ideas from these conferences by presenting our experiences to our families.

  • Place based Learning

This pedagogy further builds on our vision of the environment as the 3rd teacher and reaffirms our pillars of Outdoors, Eco-Sustainability, Mindfulness, Social Justice and Image of the Child as the center.

  • Our Pillars

SSJC identity and values are grounded in five foundational pillars. The pillars serve as a navigational compass as we continue to learn and grow with our children, families, community, and the world at large.
