Välkommen!

Welcome to The Scandinavian School of Jersey City!

Introduction:

Creating a safe space that fosters the social and intellectual development of our students is the primary mission of the Scandinavian School of Jersey City.  Our curriculum is modeled after the Reggio Emilia philosophy of teaching, as well as the Swedish daycare/preschool system which focuses on promoting growth through exploration and varied experiences. Our dedicated staff of teachers is committed to working with our parents to create a fun and stimulating environment for our students where learning comes naturally. Here at the “Scandi-School”, we believe that children are curious, competent and always actively seeking more and more knowledge.  It is our responsibility as teachers and parents to create situations and scenarios that encourage the children to investigate and explore. By limiting our enrollment to a small manageable number, we are committed to creating opportunities for learning for each child that walks through our doors, no matter how young.  What the children learn is a direct result of their activities, resources and environment.

At the Scandi-School, we have created a comfortable home away from home, where sterile desks have been replaced by comfortable couches and kid friendly small tables where the kids will participate in activities ranging from art and music to whatever else they show a genuine interest in. We also want to encourage self elected activities; therefore our shelves, books and other materials at the school are easily accessible to the children. By giving the students open access to the space,  we hope to foster a sense of ownership as well as responsibility as they learn to play and share with their fellow classmates.

The sunlight that beams through the floor-to-ceiling windows in our main space is symbolic of what we hope to accomplish with our Scandi-School students. It is our goal to brighten the lives of each child everyday by encouraging them to explore their surroundings, develop new friendships and let their imaginations run wild in a space they can call their own.

We look forward to hearing from you!
