Our Pillars

SSJC identity and values are grounded in five foundational pillars. The pillars serve as a navigational compass as we continue to learn and grow with our children, families, community, and the world at large.

The Five Pillars of Scandi School

  • Image of the Child

Each child is a capable, curious and competent citizen of the world, full of valuable ideas and worthy contributions to our collective reality.

  • Mindfulness

The daily practices of deep connection with oneself, each other, our environment, our community, and the world at large.

  • Outdoors/Nature

The building and support of symbiotic relationships between the individual and the natural world. The outdoors as an extension of our classroom, our environment as a third teacher.

  • Eco Sustainability

Our commitment to honor and protect the environment, cultivating greater meanings and accountability within our relationship to the natural world.

  • Social Justice

Our commitment to a school-wide journey of exploring ideas of equity and civic responsibility. Holistic and age-appropriate practices of using our voices for good.

Learn More About Our Pedagogy

  • Documentation

We look at documentation work as part of the child’s journey at school. The children's project work and their development are continuously documented with the help of photos, videos and writing.

  • Learning Stories

The Learning Stories is a holistic approach to learning assessment. Everyone, including the child, is invited to participate in this invaluable journey of learning reflection.
