Fundraising Gratitude Reports

Thank you for your generosity!

Only through your support have we been able to grow as a cohesive unit and team, not only by your monetary support of these initiatives and opportunities, but also by your constant cheering on when school is closed.

We are forever grateful to work together with our families to ensure the growth of our school as a place for learning, not only for children but for our teachers and parents as well.

Below are some of what the Scandinavian School Foundation has accomplished in the past few years.

Play Iceland & The Reggio Emilia Institute

One of the primary goals of the fundraising campaign is to send our teachers to trainings and conferences around the world, so that they can bring back new knowledge and inspiration for their classes and everyone who works in the school.

Through your generosity, we have been able to send our teachers to a variety of conferences in the past few years including the International Play Iceland in Reykjavik, “The Role of Teacher as a Researcher” Conference in North Carolina, The Blue School’s “Teaching Innovation Conference” in NYC to name a few.

We have also been able to send teachers to Reggio Emilia workshops in Cambridge, Massachusetts. This ensures all our educators have a solid foundation in our student centered and emergent curriculum.

Making a Magical Space Inside and Outside

In the past few years we made big additions to our indoor and outdoor spaces at Scandi School. We upgraded our ever-popular mud kitchen in the backyard with a rain barrel to harvest water for the children's work.

We also want to be able to purchase new light tables, projectors, computers, cameras and iPads so all our classroom have access to explore with technology.

If you would like to make a contribution on purchasing these items, please visit the Scandi School Store.

A Real Greenhouse

Our students have an opportunity to learn about caring for plants during the spring, summer and fall in our outdoor garden. In the 2016-2017 school year, we were able to create a small indoor greenhouse on top of the cubbies in the main entrance of the 210 building.

More recently, we were able to make a real outdoor greenhouse located in the backyard.

Fall & Winter Teacher Retreats

Through your generosity in 2018, we were able to send all staff to two Teacher Retreats at an alumni-owned and operated Eastwind Hotel & Bar in the Catskills aimed at building understanding and awareness of the meanings and methods of education, the central qualifying points of the educational project, and the specific competencies of the various professional roles.”

We experienced 4 days of discussions, meditation and yoga, as well as some fun in the snow at beautiful Bearpen Mountain & Sports for some good old fashioned team building activities.

Professional Development days bring us all together and make for a reenergized, inspired and close knit team.

We owe you our deepest gratitude for all we were able to accomplish in the past few years!
