About Documentation at Scandi
Documentation is not about what we do, but what we are searching for.
Carla Rinaldi
We look at documentation work as part of the child’s journey at school. The children's project work and their development are continuously documented with the help of e.g. photos, videos and writing.
Children’s knowledge, thoughts and theories are put first. Great emphasis is placed on the creative process and imagination, as a help for the children to reflect their thoughts and theories as well as to share it with others and construct interesting explorations together.
The children may embark into a lengthy collaborative project that may last for months, have made a discovery on their own or partake in an interesting exploration with another child. Whichever it might be, It is not a finished product that is important, instead, the focus is on the process and on the child to understand and learn by exploring their existence on their own.
We use various tools to document the process of their meaningful learning experiences at school. The documentation is set up clearly visible to the children and parents on the walls. Some of these may be displayed on panels both inside and outside of the school, some of these panels may have been written with the families in mind in which allows an opportunity for reflections and conversation on the class projects and other involvement.
Other panels of documentation are meant for the children and may be displayed in the classrooms, this also allows them to reflect but also be inspired, create a classroom identity and take ownership of their learnings and experiences.
All documentation concerning the individual children is collected in their own documentation binders along with their learning stories. Read more about learning stories here.

The Swedish Preschool Curriculum
We follow the Swedish national preschool curriculum. It is a curriculum that was written by politicians, professors, pedagogues and educators from Reggio Emilia where they put the child in the center of their creative thinking and process.
